Joseph's Surgery

Today was the big surgery day for Joseph and I am happy to say that everything went great. Our check in time was 8:30am so we had to leave the house at 7:30am. This was good news for me since Joseph was not supposed to eat anything after 12:00am and he could not drink after 7:00am.

He slept until about 7:15 so we pretty much just put him in the car. I decided to just have him wear his PJ's since he would be changing when he got to the hospital anyway. When we got there he was really nervous, but agreed to play Video games while we waited for our turn.

When they called him in to do the preliminary check up he went willingly. He didn't talk much, but he did what the nurses asked. I think he even liked the Pajama's they had him put on.

When it was surgery time he chose to walk instead of riding in the wagon. When we got to the "good bye spot", he took the doctors hand and went right in.

I was not sure what the outcome of a tongue clipping is, because I have not talked to anyone who has had it done before. So I was not sure what Joseph we would find in the recovery room, but when I came in he was lying in the bed and he started sticking his tongue out as soon as he saw me.
The Doctor said that there was a lot of scar tissue under his tongue from it tearing on it's own and then healing itself. He said he was surprised how much there was. So I am really glad we decided to go ahead and do the surgery. I had no idea that it had been doing that.

His mouth was sore and he really liked the slushi's they had there for him, but after about an hour he was ready to just go home. Luckily everything went so well that we were back home by Noon. I thought Joseph would sleep more, but he has been happy to just take it easy. Grandma came over for a couple of hours this afternoon and played with him. She brought a book of sticker puzzles and they spent the afternoon putting them together, and decorating the fridge with them. Then as Grandma was leaving we found a package on our porch from his other Grandma with some fun games in it to play.

He has only complained about hurting when he eats certain foods. (If it hurts we have him eat something else) The Doctor said he needed to stay away from grease the first day, but we didn't need to change his eating habits too much. He seems to be favoring the cold smooth stuff for now, like ice cream, Jello, and cold drinks. He is talking and playing games and is really doing well.

Thanks Shelby for watching Josh this morning and Laura for the Papa Murphy's pizza that was so nice to have for dinner tonight when we were all so tired.

Hospital Tour

Both of the boys are scheduled to have surgery in the next couple of weeks.

Joe is going to have his tongue clipped because he is tongue tied and it is affecting his speech.

Joshua is going to get his tonsils and adenoids out so he can breath through his nose.

The hospital offers a class for the families to come to prior to surgery day to talk to the kids and parents and help get rid of some of the unknown worries. Tonight was our class. Emily came along so she could know what was happening too.

We started off the class with a video about a robot named Scrappy who was going to have surgery. Josh was very entertained by the video and thought Scrappy was pretty funny. Joe liked the video right up until Scrappy got in the red wagon and the nurse said......

"This is where you say good-bye to your mom and dad."

Then it showed Scrappy going off in the wagon and his parents standing in the hall waving good bye. At this point Joe was ready to leave the hospital and not come back.

After the video they had the kids go to one side of the room with some nurses, and the parents sat on the other side of the room with another nurse. They had the kids sit on the ground, but Joe sat on a chair so that he could see us. Every now and then I would look over and see his two little eyes peeking over the chair. I think he thought we were going to leave him there.

The parents got the grueling details of what surgery would be like and the kids got to see all of the fun things they use at the hospital and at the end they got to dress up like the doctors. The boys were happy because they got to bring home the hat, mask and gloves so they could play doctor at home.

We ended the class by walking around the hospital and looking at the different rooms the kids would be in during their visit to the hospital. Joe really liked the recovery room with the slush machines in it.

The kids were then given "Bed Buddies" who are wearing the fun hospital jammies. But they suggested that we add a face and hair to them. So when we got home we did just that.

Joe is still nervous about his procedure, but Josh can't wait for his. He thinks it is going to be a big party and really wants to ride in the red wagon.

Emily is sad that she does not get to come watch the surgery, and is even a little jealous that she is not having surgery too. I think she will change her mind when the boys come home, but I guess the class worked in making it sound fun......We will see!

Found

I did a little phone calling today after my nap and when Ryan got home I went to the mall and found a few things at JC Penny's. Thanks Laura, I did not know that they had Maternity clothes. I found a few new things and all of the maternity clothes were 30% off so they were very affordable. Now maybe I will be able to make it to the end of my pregnancy feeling somewhat human. :)

Missing Maternity Clothes

I have now reached the last trimester of my pregnancy. I am feeling huge, my body hurts, it is hard to get a good nights sleep and I am very easily agitated or brought to tears. This is Ryan's favorite part of me being pregnant.

Because my last two baby's were winter baby's and with each new baby I magically get bigger and bigger I have found that I need to get a few more things to get me to the end feeling like a normal person, and not roasting to death in the heat. I don't want to spend a lot of money because like I said I will only be needing them for a couple more months. So I figured I could just run to Shopko or Target and find something.

I went to Shopko about a month ago, before I was desperate, only to find that they no longer have maternity clothes at the store by my house. They have sent all of them to the West Valley store. So I thought no big deal.

A couple of weeks later I went to Old Navy and once again no maternity clothes. They had also sent all of the clothes to the West side. This started to become a little frustrating, but I thought oh well no big deal. So I went to Target and finally someone had Maternity clothes, but when I looked a little closer they only had three shirts to choose from and the colors were that yucky yellow green and yellow brown. I already feel so beautiful, I am not about to wear a shirt the color of poop. I did find a black shirt so I bought that one.

Well now I am desperate, so today I finally did it.......I went to Wal-Mart. I just wanted anther t-shirt or two to wear and I figured I could probably find something there. I walked around and then asked a clerk and found that even Wal-mart has sent all of their Maternity clothes to one store on the west side. And when I say west I mean really far west. I got in my car and cried as I drove home.

I know it is only 30 -45 minutes to drive out West, but remember I am tired. (I cried because Wal-Mart didn't have what I needed.) So if you see me in the next couple of months and I look like a slob or you think I wore that shirt yesterday. You will probably be right. It is not for the lack of trying. I guess I just live in the wrong city to be pregnant on a budget.

It is too late to order anything online. I am trying to talk myself in to making a trip out west or just going to an official maternity store, but for now I think I better take a nap.

Take The Lid Off!

I know Earth day was Yesterday, but I wanted to share some important information and I missed it. So here it is anyway.

At our house recycling is a must, because Emily is all about being "Green" and saving the planet. She is always telling me all of the great things we can do with the trash. Like planting flowers in the bottles that can't be recycled, and other stuff like that. (I have to purge her room every once in a while just to make sure she is not "recycling" anything weird.)

I thought we were doing a pretty good job. We have two garbage cans in the kitchen. One for Garbage and one for the recyclables. We are also lucky enough to live in a city that offers the big recycling garbage can that we can put our stuff in and set out on Garbage day. The only problem is the city is not very good about getting the information about proper recycling to us. (I have been looking for it)

We were getting most of our stuff into the right cans and I was feeling pretty good about our efforts. Then, Emily went on a field trip last year to the DUMP. (I know that sounds really exciting.)

When she came home she told me all of the things we were doing wrong. Here are a few of them.

When recycling a plastic bag you can not just put one bag in. You have to put a lot of bags inside one bag and tie it shut. Then at the dump they throw the outside bag away and recycle the bags that were inside.

When recycling a metal can you should wash it out and remove the label. Then let it dry before you put it in the recycling. Because if the Paper or cardboard gets food and water on it then it is not recyclable anymore.

Don't recycle cardboard that has food on it (like the pizza boxes)

Then last of all before you throw that plastic bottle in the recycling.... TAKE THE LID OFF!

Before I would screw the lid back on my water bottles, milk jugs, soda bottles, etc right before I threw them in the recycling and I have noticed that I am not the only one with this habit. If the bottle arrives at the dump with the lid on it then it is just thrown in the garbage because they don't have time to unscrew all the lids. I guess in the recycling process the lid has to be off because the trapped air causes problems.

So for years my bottles that I thought I was recycling have just been thrown in the landfill. I am sure that other things I thought I was recycling have just ended up being thrown away too.
So in the spirit of Earth Day I thought I would just pass this on so we can all learn from my mistakes.
HAPPY LATE EARTH DAY!

Flashback Friday

I was going through some of my photo disks and came across this video of Joseph.
He is 2 years old.

I am glad I caught a few things on Video......They grow up so fast, and my memory did not do this justice.

HAPPY D'STER

="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKnCI-GbZs77CxApr5I1QF-BokNT5EU2zL12VKCo3SwVoD5dWHVtvHfc-G5rp6uezNLrRH34Xk5w0_qbSxUK9k3DlAwTcIReFITeVu4qB8bvHDxxRMVf8k4Z_gGjcayQXqAAw8rKZFlEdg/s1600-h/Joseph's+eggs.JPG">div>In Ryan's family his dad is nick named D'ster. Even our kids will call him this and sometimes they will chant it when they want him to do something.

We had started our Easter festivities on Saturday by coloring some Easter eggs.

Of course all of Josh's were green. I colored one red and tried to give it to him, but he quickly took it out of his carton and handed it to Emily.

Joe and Emily were excited for the Easter bunny to come and they told Josh all about it. That night they set out their baskets and went to bed.

Easter Morning Josh woke up and asked if the D'ster bunny had come.

The rest of the day was filled with D'ster baskets, D'ster candy, D'ster eggs

and even new D'ster church clothes. Emily and Joe thought it was funny Josh was calling it D'ster.

At Grandma and Grandpa's the kids had a D'ster egg hunt.
Emily and Joe were happy with any egg they found,
,

but Josh only wanted the green eggs.

If he found an egg of another color he would either pass it by or give it to Joe.

In the egg hunt they each got a special bag that had a chicken in it that you filled with candy, wound up, and let it walk. Then as it walked it pooped out the candy. (I think it is supposed to be laying eggs) The kids loved this and decided to have races with their chickens. It was very entertaining.

I thought Josh would catch on that we were saying Easter, but he is still calling it D'ster today. I guess the word Easter is new to him and did not make sense, so he changed it to something that did. So for now............Happy D'ster!
