Joe is going to have his tongue clipped because he is tongue tied and it is affecting his speech.
Joshua is going to get his tonsils and adenoids out so he can breath through his nose.
The hospital offers a class for the families to come to prior to surgery day to talk to the kids and parents and help get rid of some of the unknown worries. Tonight was our class. Emily came along so she could know what was happening too.
We started off the class with a video about a robot named Scrappy who was going to have surgery. Josh was very entertained by the video and thought Scrappy was pretty funny. Joe liked the video right up until Scrappy got in the red wagon and the nurse said......
"This is where you say good-bye to your mom and dad."
Then it showed Scrappy going off in the wagon and his parents standing in the hall waving good bye. At this point Joe was ready to leave the hospital and not come back.
After the video they had the kids go to one side of the room with some nurses, and the parents sat on the other side of the room with another nurse. They had the kids sit on the ground, but Joe sat on a chair so that he could see us. Every now and then I would look over and see his two little eyes peeking over the chair. I think he thought we were going to leave him there.
The parents got the grueling details of what surgery would be like and the kids got to see all of the fun things they use at the hospital and at the end they got to dress up like the doctors. The boys were happy because they got to bring home the hat, mask and gloves so they could play doctor at home.
We ended the class by walking around the hospital and looking at the different rooms the kids would be in during their visit to the hospital. Joe really liked the recovery room with the slush machines in it.
The kids were then given "Bed Buddies" who are wearing the fun hospital jammies. But they suggested that we add a face and hair to them. So when we got home we did just that.

Joe is still nervous about his procedure, but Josh can't wait for his. He thinks it is going to be a big party and really wants to ride in the red wagon.
Emily is sad that she does not get to come watch the surgery, and is even a little jealous that she is not having surgery too. I think she will change her mind when the boys come home, but I guess the class worked in making it sound fun......We will see!
