Jump To It - Science Fair

In 5th grade the science fair is optional, unless you are in Miss Stienbergs 5th/6th split class, then it is required.
Joe's Science Fair project this year was testing to see if age affected how far you can jump.

He tested groups of people in different age groups and found that for kids the older they got the farther they could jump. But there comes a point where age means that you don't jump as well.

Good Job Joe.

Officer Wride

It was a busy day at the school today.  In between Parents and pastries and the Science Fair there was a special precession that came by the school to honor a fallen officer, Corey Wride.

Officer Wride was shot and killed earlier last year.  The city was honoring him by naming a park after him.  It was an honor to stand with all of the kids and wave our flags as his fellow officers and family drove past.  I am so grateful for the men and women who work hard to protect our community and keep us safe.

Parents and Pastries with Josh

One of the things that our PTA does is host a parent's and pastries day for each grade.  Today was the Third Grade day.  That means I get to go read with Josh at school for an hour, and we get to have cookies.  I am so grateful to have opportunities to be a part of his day.
I love getting to spend a little extra time with this kid.  When Josh started reading a few years ago he did not love it.  Now that we have figured out what kinds of books he likes to read he has started to have a love for reading.  He is not a fantasy guy.  Josh is all about the facts.  So we spent our time reading and learning about Seals and Sea Lions.

Bee Bop With Aesop

The 3rd grade had their school program tonight.  It was titled Bee Bop With Aesop.  It was really cute.   Each class sang about and acted out one of Aesop's fables.  They did the Tortes and the Hair, The Boy who cried wolf, and don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today.

Josh's class did Look Before you leap.

They did a great job.

Valerie - The Girl Scout

Meet the newest Girl Scout.
Valerie Joined Troop #350 today as a Daisy.

After Valerie decided she did not want to do dance I started looking for something else that she might enjoy doing.  Her friend Emily Call was in Girl Scouts so we decided to check it out.  It is such a great program, and I will admit I love the cookies too.
She is so excited to start this new adventure, and I am excited to do it with her.
I get to be one of her Co-leaders.

Look who's 40!!

Today is Ryan's 40th birthday.  I asked him if he wanted a big party, but he said no.  So instead to celebrate I made him a big pan of his favorite dinner, Mac and Cheese.

I am so grateful for Ryan and all that he does for our family.  He is such an amazing husband and father.

Happy Birthday Ryan!!! We love you!!!

Curls

Last night I put Curlers in Valerie's hair.  When I finished she jumped up and said, "I need to go look in the mirror to see if I look like Great Grandma Atkin.
I love that she said that.  Every morning for as long as I can remember my Grandma Atkin has put curlers in her hair.  When we go to visit her if we arrive early enough she usually will still have them in.  She would eventually go and take them out,  but I have many memories and a few photos of her with them in.  So for that to be something that Valerie has noticed was so cute to me.
